Social Studies

In social studies we are learning about the how the Industrial Revolution changed the United States.

Science

We have finished our science units for the year. We are beginning to review everything we have learned this year. This week, we are working on weather, climate, and the water cycle. Make sure you ask your child to tell you the weather instruments, and how the water cycle works. Here are some words you child needs to know.
weather, climate, evaporation, precipitation, condensation, wind vane, barometer, anemometer, thermometer, and rain gauge

Writing

In writing, we are working on Persuasive papers. We are taking our writing prompt next Friday. Each student should have completed three papers by next Thursday.

Welcome

Parents,
Welcome to Gilbert Elementary! I am excited to be beginning a new school year. I am ready to get to know your child. My name is Leigh Brooks and I LOVE my job!
This is some information I thought you might need to know. School begins at 7:30. It is important not to be tardy. If for some reason your child is tardy, you need to walk in with your child and sign him/her in at the office. If your child is absent, I have to have a written excuse in order for it to be excused. If your child goes to the doctor or dentist, please ask for a note for school. If your child will be picked up by someone else or ride a different bus, you must send a note or call the office. If a parent does not notify me, your child will be sent home their usual way. I thought you might want to know the prices of the following:
Lunch $1.50
Breakfast $1.00
Milk $0.40
Ice Cream $0.50 (Friday only)

Water
Your child may bring a water bottle to school. If your child plays with the bottle during class, he/she will be asked to keep the water bottle at home. We will not be having snack this year.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
We will have conferences as needed. This means that if you have a concern, or I have a concern, we need to meet and talk about it. If you would like to schedule a conference, please send in a letter or call requesting a date and time. Please take into consideration that during the day, teaching is my main priority! Conferences are scheduled after school or before 7:00a.m.

Agendas
Agendas are sent home EVERY day. This is where you should find your child's homework and important notes from me. Make sure you look at your child's agenda every night and initial.

Changing Classes
In fourth grade, we begin changing classes. Your child will be in my room for writing, science, and social studies. Mrs. McRae will be teaching reading and language arts. Mrs. Pope will be teaching math.

Free Lunch Form
Please fill these out as soon as possible. If you are not interested, write no thanks and your child's name.
Your Partner,
Leigh Brooks
